Magento alternative: from maintenance burden to platform

Magento can do almost anything — if you have an agency, a hosting partner and an upgrade budget. With Neuramerce that work is part of the subscription: hosting, updates and security are our responsibility, and you make changes yourself instead of through a sprint.

TL;DR — which one is for whom?

ChooseMagento

if your setup is genuinely unique: complex B2B pricing structures, custom business logic, integrations with an ERP that won't budge. With a good agency and a maintenance budget you can build almost anything in Magento — no hosted platform offers that freedom.

Choose

if the maintenance costs you more than the capabilities deliver: hosting, upgrades, security patches and an agency hourly rate for every change. You trade in custom development, and get a platform where you make changes yourself.

The full comparison

Magento compared on what you get out of the box — without extensions and without agency hours. Watch the last category: that's where the real difference sits, not in the feature list.

What does your Magento shop really cost?

With Magento the money isn't in licences but in hours and infrastructure. Add up hosting, maintenance, extensions and the upgrades that come back every two years.

Why shops switch from Magento

Rarely about functionality. Almost always about what it costs to keep it running.

Upgrades have become projects

Every major version means re-testing, getting extensions to follow along, and a tense weekend. With us an update is something that happens overnight without you noticing.

The bill isn't the licence

Hosting, monitoring, retainer, extensions and security work add up, for a mid-sized shop, to a multiple of the package itself.

Nothing happens without your agency

Changing a text, adding a filter, moving a block — currently a ticket, soon something you do yourself in the editor.

Security is no longer your problem

With Magento, installing patches and tracking vulnerabilities is on you. We take over that responsibility.

Fewer separate systems

Inventory, returns, inbox, marketing and reviews are built into the platform instead of living in extensions and external packages.

Predictable costs

A fixed rate instead of a year that turns out more expensive whenever something breaks or goes out of date.

Switch in 4 steps

In a Magento migration, the inventory-taking is the real work. So that's where we start.

  1. Taking stock

We go through your extensions, custom work and integrations and sort them into three piles: built into the platform, can be connected, or dropped. That list determines whether switching is sensible at all.

  2. Data and integrations

Products, attributes, customers, order history and content across; ERP and fulfilment integrations rebuilt and tested alongside your existing shop.

  3. Trial run

The new shop is ready on a test address. You and your team work in it for a while before anything switches over.

  4. Live, and goodbye to the maintenance

Switch over with redirects to protect your visibility. After that: no hosting bill, no retainer and no upgrade planning.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about switching from Magento.

If the maintenance costs you more than the custom work delivers, yes. Magento can do almost anything, but you pay for it in hosting, upgrades, security work and agency hours. Neuramerce delivers all of that as part of the subscription, with less room for custom development.
That's the first step of the stocktake: which custom work is already in the platform, what can we connect, and what gets dropped. If too much lands in that last pile, switching isn't a good idea — and we'll simply say so.
We set it up again and test it alongside your existing shop before anything switches over. Which ERP it is determines how much work that takes; that comes up in the intake.
Our B2B portal handles customer groups, volume tiers and custom price agreements. It doesn't go as far as what you can build in Magento — present your setup in the intake and we'll tell you upfront whether it fits.
Not if the migration is done properly. We keep your URL structure where possible and set redirects for everything that changes, including your meta titles and descriptions.
Longer than with a hosted package, because the stocktake and the integrations are the real work. You'll get a realistic estimate after the intake, not a standard timeline.
If your business logic is genuinely unique and you have an agency that maintains your shop well. No hosted platform gives you that freedom back — including us.
