Looking for different webshop software?

Every platform picks a side: WooCommerce gives you freedom and asks for maintenance, Shopify takes over the maintenance and charges per app, Lightspeed grew out of the till. Below is what to look for when comparing, plus a fair comparison with Neuramerce for each platform.

What to look for when comparing

Six questions that decide whether a platform will still fit in three years. The license price is deliberately left out, because it's rarely the most expensive part.

What it costs in total, not just the license

Add up hosting, theme, paid extensions, separate tools, and maintenance. A free core surrounded by ten subscriptions ends up costing more than a single rate.

Who's responsible when something breaks

With a self-hosted platform, updates and security are on you. With a hosted platform, that's on the vendor. Either can work, but know which one you're choosing.

Is your operation built in, or bolted on

Inventory, purchasing, returns, and POS: does the platform handle these itself, or does it need a second system with an integration in between?

How many integrations do you need

Every integration between two systems is a place where data can drift out of sync. Fewer systems means less drift.

Does the price grow with your team

Some platforms charge per user or per till. Work out what you'd pay if your team or number of stores doubled.

Can you get your data back out

Ask upfront how you'd export your products, customers, and order history. Open source gives you the code; a good platform gives you your data, at the very least.
See for yourself

What a webshop on Neuramerce looks like.

The page on the webshop module shows the real screens: product management, search analytics, checkout and B2B. How that works in a live shop is in the Grill Bill case.

Is your website running on a separate CMS?

Besides webshop software, we also compare ten CMS platforms side by side: WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer, Drupal, Joomla, TYPO3, HubSpot and Ghost.

FAQ

Questions about choosing webshop software.

Usually not because the platform stops working, but because the environment around it has grown too big: a separate inventory tool, a separate inbox, a separate mailing tool, and integrations that need maintaining. Once you're spending more time holding it all together than selling, it's worth comparing.
At Neuramerce, we migrate your products, customers, order history, and content at no extra cost. The time it takes you is mostly spent reviewing and deciding, not retyping.
Yes. You can keep your current shop running and start with a single module, inventory or customer contact for example, and move the shop itself later.
WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento, Lightspeed, CCV Shop and Mijnwebwinkel. Every comparison also states where the other package wins; otherwise it would be of no use to you.
